About us

Mick Farrington left Swanmore Secondary School aged 15 in 1967 and started work as an Apprentice Plant Fitter with Eddison Plant working on the Road Rollers and later transferring to Hyde Abbey where he gained experience with Dozers, 180 and 360 machines, dumpers, tractors, combines and balers etc and Southdown Plant ([part of Hewdens) where compressors and non-operated plant were specialised in.

After finishing the apprenticeship at 21, Mick decided that he wanted to work with operated machinery and applied for a job with Global Plant as a mobile engineer.  He spent many a happy year at Global and met some fantastic people who taught him a lot, not just about fitting but also about life!

Mick wanted to work for himself really and in 1988 he became a sole trader and worked for many Groundwork Companies throughout Hampshire.  In 1997, M J Farrington Ltd was formed. Offices and workshops were later acquired in Marchwood Southampton.

Today M J Farrington Ltd remains a small family run business employing 6 Fitters and 3 office staff.
